What is a thigh lift?

The purpose of a thigh lift is to eliminate sagging, excess skin on the inner or outer thighs, buttocks, and hips. Some people develop this type of loose skin as they age and skin elasticity diminishes, while others end up with excess skin after losing weight.

No matter what caused the problem, a thigh lift can improve it, but it’s important to know that a thigh lift focuses on removing loose skin, and then tightening it to create an improved contour. Small areas of fat may be eliminated during a thigh lift, but if you have extra fat, you may need to consider another procedure like liposuction.

Who is a good candidate for a thigh lift?

You’ll need to be at or near your healthy body weight before getting a thigh lift. If you have a thigh lift and then lose weight, you’ll end up with more excess skin. And if you gain weight afterwards, you’ll ruin the results of the thigh lift surgery. In other words, a good candidate for a thigh lift is a person who is dedicated to following a healthy diet and exercise plan that maintains a stable weight.

If you’re not sure whether a thigh lift is the best choice for you, schedule a consultation at Strax Rejuvenation. Your doctor evaluates your overall health, assesses the problem area, talks with you about your goals, and determines which procedure is the best option.

What can you expect during and after the procedure?

During your consultation, the doctor explains the surgical procedure and the type of anesthesia used. The incision placement depends on whether you’re having inner or outer thigh surgery, but it’s always placed in areas where it can be hidden by most types of clothing and bathing suits.

After surgery, your thighs will be swollen and you’ll need to avoid strenuous activity for a few days, but it’s important to walk as soon as you can after surgery. Many patients can return to work in a few days (as long as your occupation does not involve manual labor or lifting). In about 3 weeks, you can get back to an exercise routine, as long as you avoid movements that would stress the incision area. It’s normal for thighs to be swollen, tender, and numb for the first 6 weeks. While you’ll notice the difference after swelling goes down, you won’t see the full effect of surgery for about 6 months, because it takes that long for scars to heal.
